The Takacat catamaran is the ultimate portable boat. Years of research and development by Greg Sowden, designer in Takapuna (Auckland) New Zealand, has been brought together in the all new Takacat LX / LS & Sports range. Slender lines, amazing stability, high performance, light weight and fully portable thanks to Takacat's revolutionary Transom Tube ®. Removable fishing rod holders and very compact storage bags make it an ideal boat for fishing trips and transport in the trunk of a car or camper. The original open bow design allows for easy re-entry from the water if you are swimming or diving. It is a property that all water lovers value.
TAKACAT - Product Overview
TAKACAT - Tender of Innovation
Innovative 16 years
design and innovation in New Zealand by Takacat.
Portable
The new revolutionary Takacat Tube Transom ® makes it possible to deflate tubes more easily and more compactly than other inflatable boats. Without a fixed transom, there is also a significant advantage in size and weight that is advantageous when handling, transporting and / or storing your portable boat.
Open Transom - SPORT + LX + LSA quick drain is a big advantage and you will not find anything better to evacuate the water. The ability to not hold water eliminates the possibility of being submerged by a wave and capsized as a result of flooding your boat. This is also a great advantage when using the boat as a roped fixed dinghy in rough, wet weather. Under such conditions a closed transom boat would fill with water which increases the weight and creates a drag.
Removable floor
It's hard to ignore the portability and comfort aspect of our fully removable inflatable floor system. Extremely rigid when inflated (10 psi), "standing on board is no problem", and both easy and quick to deflate and store for transport or storage. This is a big advantage over inflatable boats, which have a built-in floor or RIB, which can both hold water.
PVC or TPU (welded seams without plasticisers)
As standard, the boats are made of quality 5-Layer PVC (0,9mm - 1000 denier - 1100g/m²) fabric from SIJIATEX, which has a very strong UV protection. Optional boats are also available in TPU (1,2mm - welded seams without plasticisers). The 10PSI high pressure floor, including the additional 1mm thick PVC protective coating, is made exclusively of PVC with DropStitch technology. TPU is more abrasion-resistant than PVC and Hypalon/CSM, rafting boats or boats for extreme operating conditions
(-70°C to +80°C) are made from TPU, for example. In contrast to PVC, TPU hoses do not contain any plasticisers, i.e. the welded seams remain supple even after welding and can withstand higher pressures than glued Hypalon/CSM seams.

TAKACAT-LS
- On the basis of the revolutionary version Takacat-LX was developed the new version Takacat 340LS (canoe style). Takacat 340LS is arguably the fastest rowing boat on the market and also shows incredible performance with small outboards. Even with a 2.5 hp outboard, planing is possible, see
VIDEOS. The new Takacat LS line represents a cross between a canoe-style boat in which one sits and the unique stability and performance of the Takacat catamaran hull.
Catamarans are much more tilt-resistant than monohulls, and this also applies to kayaks. Since TAKACAT exclusively develops boats in catamaran design, it was logical that the new kayak from TAKACAT will also be a catamaran =>
Takayak-395
Generous continuous load area
The number 395 describes the overall length of the Takayak. But much more interesting is the usable length of the inner high-pressure floor of 370cm, with a continuous width of 42cm. So the Takayak offers plenty of loading space for 2 people with luggage, parents with children or for one/two people with one or more dogs.
29cm drive hoses with protective strips on the undersides
The two driving hoses with their 29cm diameter are well proportioned for a maximum load of 260Kg and are powerfully supported by the large-surface high-pressure floor. The lower connecting floor between the two drive hoses additionally protects the inner high-pressure floor in case of ground contact and during landing.
10PSI "Drop-Stitch" high pressure floor
The 8cm thick high-pressure floor can be inflated with an operating pressure of up to 10PSI = 689mbar thanks to its drop-stitch technology. This creates a stable loading platform and shields the entire seating and loading area from the water surface.
3 air chambers + safety overpressure valves
Each driving hose is equipped with a Halkey-Roberts valve at the stern and an overpressure safety valve at the bow. Accidental over-pumping of the tubes is therefore impossible and harmful pressure increases due to strong sunlight are also avoided. The Takayak-395 has a total of 3 independent large-volume air chambers.
Mobile in a bag
The Takayak-395, together with the high pressure floor, the two paddles, the two kayak seats and the hand air pump can be stowed in a transport bag. The transport bag measures 120 x 40 x 40cm (length/width/height). The driving hoses and the high-pressure floor together weigh 20Kg, the completely parked carrying bag with all accessories weighs approx. 24Kg, depending on the model of the hand pump.
Assembly - quick and uncomplicated
Setting up the Takayak-395 is quick and uncomplicated:
- Unroll the drive hoses and inflate to 250mbar (3.6PSI) at the stern using the Halkey-Roberts valves.
- Insert the high-pressure floor, fix it to the underbody at the bow and stern using the tension straps and inflate to 689mbar (10PSI).
- Insert the seats and tighten them using the side D-rings.
- Assemble the paddles and adjust them to your personal style.
And the Takayak-395 is ready to go out. Depending on the number of people and the load, one or two seats can be clipped in.
Electric Engine connected with a FinBox adapter
Thanks to the straight-through connecting floor between the two tubes, the Takayak-395/300 offers the possibility of e.g. gluing a slide-in fin box from down against the connecting floor and thus using an electric motor as a supporting drive aid. There are many manufacturers on the market who offer slide-in electric motors with FinBox adapters, e.g. Vaquita from ePropulsion, the Scupajet from Austria or the new
E-Finn from JAYKAY in Germany. The course is then steered with the help of the paddle. Depending on the drive, speeds of up to 10Km/h can be achieved.
Kayaking redesigned -
Takayak-395 - the redesigned kayak from Takacat offers advantages for all those who do not want to do without comfort and unique functionality when kayaking. As a catamaran, a stable position in the water, a ride as if on two rails, boarding and disembarking via the open bow is effortless, even out of the water back into the kayak, plenty of space for dogs and luggage travelling with you and a unique forced bilge.
Permatrim - Hydrofoil
Hydrofoil Permatrim (TM) is an efficient trim panel for outboard and Z-drive engines that improves boat performance and handling as follows:
- Elimination of ventilation problems (air gaps)
- Improved behavior in harsh waters
- Faster transition to the slip phase
- Slip speed reduction
- Reduced fuel consumption
- Reduced rocking behavior
Made of aluminum for marine use and with extra layer of powder for maximum corrosion resistance. Developed and produced in New Zealand. Available in 13 models for almost all outboards and Z-transmissions from 3 to 300 hp - for both dinghies and multihull boats.
Eliminate ventilation problems
The Hydrofoil Permatrim (TM) increases the engine's anti-ventilation plate four times and the lateral faults absorb the propeller's current. As a result, Permatrim (TM) dramatically reduces the possibility for the propeller to pick up a pocket of air - the reason for ventilation.
Reduces fuel consumption
Boats equipped with Hydrofoil Permatrim (TM) have more lift in the rear. As a result, the hull slips more efficiently and begins to slide already at lower speeds and at lower speeds. Lower fuel consumption is the result.
Improved behavior in rigorous waters
A Hydrofoil Permatrim (TM) provides better control of the trim angle and eliminates rocking behavior as it already reaches a steady driving level at much lower speeds.

The Takacat models 340LX-HD, 380LX-HD, 420LX-HD and 460LX-HD are available as heavy-duty versions for water rescue and other operations under difficult conditions. An ideal rapid intervention boat (SEB) for the fire brigade, water rescue and police. Due to their low immersion depth, TAKACAT catamaran inflatable boats are ideal for shallow water operations. The open bow makes it much easier to transfer people into the boat. The same applies to rescue divers and lifeguards. The open transom guarantees that the Takacats never fill up. Any water that is taken over flows straight back out of the boat.
In the heavy-duty version, the Takacats are made of
1.2mm/1450 weight RESC (red/dark blue) thick PVC fabric, alternatively
1.5mm/1750 weight MIL (black) thick PVC fabric or alternatively 1mm Hypalon/CSM. The top of the both tubes is double reinforced with a wide strip of PVC skin to protect against heavy uniforms.
The heavy-duty high-pressure floor has a full-surface and all-round PVC protective coating with an additional layer on the top (2mm) so that the boat can be walked on with heavy footwear without any problems and carrying heavy equipment is no problem.
The heavy-duty transom, made of 2mm stainless steel square tube plus 50mm thick PE1000 transom plates with additional stainless steel reinforcement, can be fitted with a maximum of a 15 or 20hp outboard motor, depending on the model. Thanks to the open bow, a transfer from the water into the boat can be carried out much more easily than with inflatable boats with a bow bulge. Divers can also return to the boat more easily. The open transom allows water that inevitably flows into the boat during a rescue operation to run off again immediately, and the same applies to wave action and heavy rain.
Due to the catamaran construction, the Takacat can also be used for ice rescue in winter, the same applies to the heavy-duty high-pressure floor. Optionally, a GRP floor can be used instead of the high-pressure floor.
The Takacat catamaran inflatable boats of the "Heavy-Duty" LX series are custom-made, i.e. special customer requests can be included in the production.

POWERBOAT Magazin Review 460LX-R
Takacat-LXRIB - The special advantages of inflatable boats, rigid hull boats and catamarans are combined in the LXRIB from Takacat to create an interesting solution. A combination of hydrodynamic and aredynamic influences allow the Takacat LXRIB to float over the water instead of cutting through it, resulting in decent planing characteristics when using compact outboards and good fuel efficiency .....
Videos
With its large centre floor and integrated bow platform (460LXR) with anchor locker, the Takacat LXRIB offers more space than other inflatable boats in this size range.
Due to its catamaran-specific stability and gliding behaviour, the Takacat LXRIB is a very good boat for multiple uses such as diving, fishing, camping, water skiing and tubing. The robust Takacat LXRIB is also a very good choice as a safety and support boat for all types of water sports and for boat hire.
TPU (1.2mm - welded seams) is the standard material for the LXR tubes. In the marine environment, boats are constantly exposed to scratches and scrapes on rough surfaces such as sharp rocks. When designing RIB tubes, it is of utmost importance that they can withstand the extreme conditions. Here too, TPU offers advantages over CSM/Hypalon for inflatable boats. TPU is much more abrasion resistant than CSM/Hypalon. This is one of the main reasons why the US space agency NASA uses TPU instead of CSM coatings for most of its textile applications.
RIBs, and especially Extreme RIBs used as military and commercial sea rescue boats, are often used in harsh weather conditions. These include both scorching and sub-zero temperatures. It is vital that the coating of the hoses can withstand these extreme conditions. High temperatures are detrimental to some textile coatings as they increase oxidation of the coating and the underlying fabric. Low temperatures, on the other hand, can cause many materials to lose their flexibility and tear or fail. Both temperature extremes generally affect CSM coatings more than TPU coatings. TPU generally retains its performance properties at temperatures from -50°C to +70°C, meaning that Takacat-LXR can be used from the Arctic to the Caribbean.

The new LXRIB from Takacat combines the aerodynamic design of the LX series with a robust connecting floor made of marine aluminium. The 340LXR and the 460LXR are currently available. Depending on the model, the LXRIB can be motorised with 50 hp. The LXRIB series has been consistently developed with recyclability in mind, i.e. the RIB floor is made of marine aluminium and the welded tubes are made of TPU. TPU can be welded like PVC but has no plasticisers that can evaporate, i.e. it remains elastic even after the seams have been welded. In addition, the softening temperature of TPU is considerably higher than that of PVC, which is a plus for hot regions and when the boat is transported on the davits. Unlike PVC, TPU can be recycled and is compostable. The LXRIB is optionally available with a bow stowage box. The 340LXR weighs 65kg and the 460LXR weighs 105kg. For a RIB, these values can be described as lightweight.
